Naval Apprenticeship Programme recognised with National Employer Service award
The Royal Naval Service was recognised for their excellent commitment to training and development at the prestigious Workforce Development Awards held at Shakespeare’s Globe in May 2010. They were ‘highly commended’ within the Apprentice Employer of the Year category and were congratulated on their achievements and success. This is the second time in three years that the Royal Navy has received this award which is a testament to the dedication and commitment that Royal Navy, Royal Marines and VT Flagship personnel have shown in delivering a complex Apprenticeship Programme across the service.
The Royal Naval Service competed against 65 other large employers from all over the UK to gain this recognition, and were judged by a panel of expert Judges to have made very significant achievements through commitment to training and development. The Judges for the National Employer Service Workforce Development Awards 2010 applauded the universally high standard seen in entries to this year’s Awards. 6 finalists were chosen and the Naval Service along with the Army were highly commended.
The National Employer Service Workforce Development Awards (WDAs) are convened annually on behalf of the Skills Funding Agency to celebrate the best in training and skills. The Awards recognise employers who have developed innovative training programmes and as well as learners who have excelled in work-based learning.
The Awards celebrate the achievements of learners and employers who work together with the government to develop the skills that underpin our economy. The Awards provide powerful stories about the importance of learning to transform both business productivity and individuals’ lives.
Captain Ian Stidston, Royal Naval Service Director of Education said: “The Apprenticeship programme across the Naval Service is a great success and acts as a spring board to progression throughout an individual’s career. The Royal Naval, Royal Marine and VT Flagship personnel delivering and assessing the schemes are to be applauded for their achievements.”
